Spaceway has issued its top ten tips to help businesses make best use of their space during tough trading conditions.

The Romsey company, recognised as one of the country's lead providers of integrated interior space solutions, urges management teams to examine their current use of space to make sure that the investment in their working environments is being optimised.

" With so much economic uncertainty around, it makes sound business sense to ensure that every square metre of space is delivering optimum value, " says Spaceway managing director Malcolm Jeary.

" A work area that includes non-productive space will provide a very poor return on what is a significant investment, and cost, for most businesses. An audit can quickly identify the best strategies for creating the most effective storage systems, reducing costs, and keeping staff motivated."

A downloabable customer briefing summarising the top tips is featured on the company's new web site - www.spaceway.co.uk - along with real life case studies. The top tips include:

· Replacing free-standing filing cabinets with storage walls
· Using mobile storage cabinets to reconfigure working areas according to demand
· Maximising off-site, high density, archive storage
· Creating employee-friendly working environments through space efficient desking systems
· Using energy efficient lighting
· Using solar reflective blinds
· Ensuring that building insulation is effective
· Ensuring that heating systems work to maximum efficiency
· Planning ahead for legislation affecting the working environment
· Consolidating two operations into one building by installing a mezzanine floor to double the productive space

" In our experience, production and working processes tend to evolve over a period of time and businesses often overlook simple ways of maximising their space, " says Mr Jeary. " When times get tough it is essential to create value throughout business operations - getting the working environment to deliver greater value has to make good sense."
